Traditionally attributed to Shao Yong of the Northern Song dynasty, its "Plum Blossom Divination" case founded the methods of deriving hexagrams from numbers and judging by images. Our casting and body/use analysis follow it.

Calculation Methodology

This Mei Hua Yi Shu tool derives hexagrams from numbers and judges by images:

  1. 1Casting: year-month-day-time, number, and word-count methods are supported; upper and lower trigrams come from their counts.
  2. 2Body/Use: the trigram containing the moving line is the Use; the static one is the Body; their five-element relation decides fortune.
  3. 3Seasonal strength: trigram qi strength follows the seasons (wood in spring, fire in summer, metal in autumn, water in winter, earth between seasons).
  4. 4Mutual and changed hexagrams: the original, mutual and changed hexagrams, with the inverted and opposite ones, complete the reading.
